Cardinal Blessings of Salvation

Romans 8:29-30 Here We Stand

Pastor Albert N. Martin returns to his 'Here We Stand' series, providing an extensive review of past topics—the authority of Scripture, the nature of God, and the person and offices of Christ—before introducing the next major theme: the cardinal blessings of salvation. He emphasizes that these blessings (calling, regeneration, justification, adoption, sanctification, glorification, and inheritance) are not synonyms for 'saved' but distinct, lavish 'courses' in the 'gospel banquet,' all received exclusively through vital union with Christ. The sermon concludes with a fervent call to unbelievers to flee to Christ and a charge to believers to appreciate the richness of their salvation.

Introduction and Purpose of the Series Review

Coming in on the Fifth Course

The point: Develop a hunger and thirst to grasp the great truths of the Word of God, especially its doctrines.

Explains that new attendees are like joining a multi-course meal mid-way; the review provides a 'bite and a sniff' of what they missed, making the ongoing series more accessible.

Some of the very vital aspects of biblical truth have been covered and expounded, and we would like to give you a bit of a feel of where we have been. It is sort of like coming in on the fifth course of a seven or eight course meal. You may not be able to go back and start with the appetizer, and the hors d'oeuvres, or anything else, but at least someone can tell you what it was like and maybe give you a little bite and a sniff of some of the crumbs that are remaining. Flipping Through Vacation Photos

The point: Develop a hunger and thirst to grasp the great truths of the Word of God, especially its doctrines.

Compares the review to reliving happy vacation moments by flipping through photos, aiming to provide an 'edifying recall' for those who have been present throughout the series.

Today, many times, the memories of many days can be captured by leafing through photographs that capsulize, as it were, the main events of those days. Some of you may spend a week, two weeks, on vacation or holiday in a very special place. And in the middle of the winter, you sit down and in five minutes you flip through your pictures and there is, as it were, a reliving of those happy moments. Well, I'm trusting that this overview and review is going to be a great help to you.

Analogy: The Gospel Banquet

The Gospel Banquet

In this part of the sermon: Using the analogy of a multi-course banquet, Martin explains that salvation is the entire feast, and each blessing (calling, regeneration, justification, adoption, sanctification)…

Compares salvation to a sumptuous, multi-course banquet, where each blessing (calling, justification, etc.) is a distinct course, emphasizing that salvation is the whole feast, not just one part. This illustrates the distinct yet interconnected nature of the blessings.

Let me illustrate going back to food. I hope it doesn't make you hungry at 12 o'clock. Now a banquet is generally a very sumptuous. And lavish meal with many courses.
