In 'Lordship of Christ in Salvation Part 2,' Pastor Albert N. Martin expounds on six key biblical passages (Matthew 7, John 10, Hebrews 5, 1 John 2, Revelation 12, and Revelation 14) to demonstrate that a lifestyle of obedience to Christ is the necessary and inevitable fruit of true saving faith. He argues forcefully against the notion that one can genuinely believe in Christ without subsequently living a life marked by obedience, challenging listeners to self-examine their profession of faith against the clear teaching of Scripture. Martin applies this truth with stark warnings to those living in disobedience and offers comfort to those who, despite their failures, genuinely strive to obey Christ.

John 10:27-28 This passage defines Christ's true sheep as those who 'hear my voice and follow me,' linking hearing and following (obedience) directly to receiving eternal life and security.

Applications

Parents & families

  • If you are not fleeing youthful lusts and abstaining from fornication, stop claiming to be a Christian.
  • Children, obey your parents in the Lord, honoring them as Christ's voice directs.

All listeners

  • Examine your lifestyle: if it is not marked by obedience to Christ, you are in unbelief and have no biblical claim to being a Christian.
  • Ask yourself: 'Are you doing the Father's will in your life? Have you done the Father's will this past week in your marriage, parenting, role as a son/daughter, workman/wife/citizen, in your thought life, use of time, money, and energies?'
  • Take God's word seriously, especially if there are chronic areas of disobedience in your life that contradict God's will.
  • Men, if the way you treat your wives is inconsistent with Christ's voice, quit it or give up your profession.
  • Women, if you refuse to respect, reverence, and submit to your husbands, give up your profession or get your act together.
  • If you claim to have eternal salvation in Christ but are not obeying Him, your professed faith is a sham, and you are under God's wrath.
  • Honestly answer: 'Are you obeying Jesus? Is that the way you live?'
  • When faced with temptation (e.g., dirty jokes, inappropriate media), do you resist and seek forgiveness, or do you rationalize and indulge?
  • Strive for perfection in holiness, tolerating no stains in your life, as your Father in heaven is perfect.
  • Do not profane your lips by claiming eternal salvation unless your feet are walking in the path of obedience to Christ.
  • Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church, using Christ as your model, motive, and the Word of God as your standard, rather than excusing disobedience based on your background.
  • Stop all 'carnal cop out stuff' and give up your profession of being in Christ if you are not living a whole Christian life.
  • Get on your knees and confess, 'Oh God, this wretched pattern's got to stop and I believe Jesus Christ can make it stop.'
  • Examine whether you are truly 'keeping the commandments of God' in your home, marriage, and personal areas of sin, especially if counseling and prayer have not led to progress.
  • Despite failures and stumblings, can you genuinely say, 'Lord Jesus, you know that I love you,' as Peter did?
  • If you cannot genuinely say you love Christ and your life does not validate it, you are not a Christian, and your false hope will be torn from you at judgment.
  • Do not attempt to 'con God' with superficial religiosity; judgment is coming.
  • Pray for willfully blind, self-deceived hypocrites to be unmasked, their hearts broken, and wills subjected to Christ for true deliverance.
  • Use the further ministry of God's word to clarify issues and distinctions regarding assurance, so that none leave without comfort who ought to have it, and none leave with comfort who ought not.
