The Concealed Time of the Second Coming

In this sermon, Pastor Albert N. Martin expounds Mark 13:32-37, focusing on the concealed time of Christ's second coming and the necessity of constant watchfulness. He meticulously distinguishes the destruction of Jerusalem from the Second Advent, arguing that while signs precede the former, the latter's timing is known only to the Father. Martin applies this truth by condemning carnal curiosity about end-times dates, urging believers to live in readiness, contentment with God's will, and diligent service, rather than engaging in speculative date-setting.

All listeners

  • Do not pry into God's silences or question His unrevealed will, but be content with what He has chosen to keep secret.
  • Focus on practical duties: keep your heart free of the love of sin and the world, keep your heart warm, your hand at His work, your tongue speaking the gospel, and your eye waiting and longing for His return.
  • Avoid all men and movements that indulge in date-setting for Christ's return.
  • Heed the warning against date-setting movements, as they wean hearts from Christ and from practical obedience.
  • Run to Christ now, before His return, to avoid crying for rocks and mountains to hide you from His judgment.
  • Live in such a way that you would be happy if your Lord came today, prioritizing what truly matters.
  • Stop engaging in stubborn, proud arguments with your spouse, especially if they stem from male pride, as you will meet the Lord who sees all.
  • Stop struggling with obesity and overeating, which is 'digging your grave with your teeth,' if you would not want the Lord to find you in such a state.
  • Stop allowing your hearts to be overcharged with surfeiting, banqueting, and the cares of this life.
  • Abide in Christ so that when He is manifested, you may have boldness and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
  • Pray for those unprepared for Christ's coming, and for believers indulging in carnal pursuits, ambition, or imbalanced priorities that reproach the gospel, asking for hearts to be solely devoted to Him.
