Fourth Introductory Principle

In his fourth foundational sermon on sexual purity, Pastor Albert N. Martin expounds on the proposition that 'A real participation in the dynamics of saving grace will deliver us from the dominion of sin, including sexual sins, and equip us for progressive growth in sexual purity.' He systematically defines 'dynamics of saving grace' and demonstrates from John 8, Romans 6, Galatians 5, and 1 Corinthians 6 that true conversion breaks sin's dominion and empowers believers for ongoing sanctification. Martin urges those enslaved to sexual sin to run to Christ for liberation and encourages believers to appropriate the grace already given for progressive purity.

Applications

All listeners

  • Do not bind your conscience or be discouraged by focusing too much on a crisis of conversion if you were reared in godly instruction and may not know the precise moment you passed from death to life. Focus instead on the present indications of true participation in saving grace.
  • If you recognize that you have never come within the orbit of God's saving grace because sin still has dominion over you, run to Jesus with your chains and ask Him to set you free.
  • Do not try to clean yourself up or get rid of your chains before coming to Jesus; go to Him as a helpless slave of sin.
  • If you are a child of God but crippled in the area of sexual purity, cry to God to reveal what you have in Christ that you are not aware of or appropriating, and what obedience you are neglecting.
  • In the actual working out of progressive sanctification, keep going back to where you began: looking away unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.
  • Pray for the Lord Jesus to come as the mighty liberator, snapping chains, cleansing, and purging foul minds and hearts.
  • Learn more and more how to lay hold of the things with which you have been equipped in your union with Christ.
